Why every check needs a rule version
Keep a reproducible vocabulary snapshot and a separately reviewed search ruleset.
Pin the vocabulary
Schema.org publishes versioned releases and downloadable vocabulary definitions. CheckMySchema ships a compact snapshot of release 30.1. The same input and rule versions should produce the same findings.
Review consumer rules separately
Search-engine documentation can change independently of Schema.org. Our Google rules therefore carry a separate review date and version. Updating the vocabulary does not automatically update Google requirements.
Make updates reviewable
Download a named release, review the term changes, run the fixture tests and commit the updated snapshot. For search rules, record the source, adjust the relevant profile, add a regression test and bump the rule version. Keep historical reports with their original version labels.
